Heroes of Color - Episode 2 / Gaspar Yanga

Published on May 20, 2016
Gaspar Yanga is known as one of the first black liberators in the Americas by leading one of the most successful slave rebellions. After being forced into slavery on the sugar plantations in Veracruz, Mexico, he escaped around 1570. Gaspar and his followers headed into the mountainous terrain of Veracruz where they flourished unchallenged for nearly 30 years. His group constantly fended off Spanish military attacks. Years later, he was officially awarded land under a treaty.

This is pretty cool. It reminds me a lot of the slave rebellion in Haiti, another inspiring story of slaves fighting back.

This video was really cool! I never heard of this story but it was really nice. I also like to see or hear about people fighting back for their rights and freedom instead of being walked over.

This video was very interesting because it was mainly new information to me. It is very inspiring to see stories of those who fought for themselves and their beliefs and their rights despite all odds.

This video was very inspirational, in a way that one person fought for what he believed in and continued fighting until he accomplished his goal.
