After watching the video, it looks as if the Americans were taking advantage of the Mexicans because of their lack strong government and economy and a lot less of Manifest Destiny. The United States knew that their military could withstand the ones of Mexico and invaded the country, knowing that it would retaliate, which would ultimately give them a reason to use force and take the land with justification. Clearly, they were upset that Mexico refused to sell them the land of Sante Fe.
I like how they mentioned that the aftermath of the Mexican-American War--whether or not slavery was going to be allowed in those areas--played a part in the following Civil War. War just doesn't seem to stop...
