The Truth about Afro Latinos

I believe this video shines light on just how diverse our society is. No matter what social class you fall in, some people use the color of your skin to define you. When people ask me where I am from I saw I was born here but my parents are Puerto Rican and Venezuelan, so I identify with all three cultures.

Great perspective and I do think it's true because the Latina actresses like Sofia Vergara are very European.
This is true for the Miss Universe that come from Latin America countries, almost always they look very European.
My version is a little different because all of my grandparents are Europeans and my parents are only Venezuelan becuase they were born there. My family still speaks Italian in gathering and but all of us are so proud to say that we are from Venezuela.

I have to agree that there does exist a level of racism within the Latin community depending on your skin tone. According to movies and magazines, Latin men and women are viewed to have either white or lightly tan skin. Anyone else who is darker isn't really seen as Latin, they are seen as black which I find is not okay. Although we do live in a diverse society, there are still people who define where you come from by your skin color.

This was an interesting video. Hmmm, salsa is an African love dance. Anyway, I found it interesting that the actors and actresses were discussing their experiences in getting roles, or not. I do some acting here in Miami and I frequently see agents wanting people who are “ethnically ambiguous”. I’m not sure when this video was made but maybe we are moving towards a trend of wanting actors and actresses to have a broader appeal to everyone? I guess in some ways it could be considered an economic decision, like for commercials, it could be cheaper for companies to pay one “ethnically ambiguous” actor or actress than to pay 2 separate people to create separate print adds or commercials.

Some of the stories the people spoke about reminded me of the times people cannot believe that I am Italian. People say I look more Hispanic or Brazilian because of my tan pigmented skin. This video is very important because it shows how diverse our society is. People think diversity within society has gotten better, but clearly not.
